Patrick Modiano : Villa Triste

By Małgorzata Mikos - 10.11.16

"Villa Triste" is a book about memory, moments saved in the mind and about youthful look at world.
Victor [the main character], Yvonne [a young actress], Dr. Menthe - these three are creating the whole story of some summer from the past and all these memories what didn't look the same after years and they aren't so wonderful.
"Villa Triste" isn't about love between Victor and Yvonne, it is not about the life in the small town, it isn't about days and things doing with other people. This book is about being lost in the moments, especially in the summer moments, when everything looks perfect and so amazing. Then, after many years everything looks differently, it is incomprehensible, it looks so normal.
"Villa Triste" is a story about desire of return to those moments from the past, when everything was so amazing and easy. Because life isn't so beautiful like that summer from the past and time is flying so quickly...

Why you should read it

To feel something new, something else that a normal life. To think about the time and about memories. Think about what is really important and what is just an illusion of wonderful moment.

Things to look out for

Our mind and our memories are really treacherous because sometimes we see what we want to see and that what we think that is unique is just another "nothing special thing" in our life.

The last word about the book

"Villa Triste" isn't a long book but the story inside is so amazing that you want more and more and when you finish it you can't believe that there's no more. That's why you're reading it quickly and you're pleased with every page, every next chapter.
