What if life as you know it was turned upside down?
"The Cosmopolitan Islander" is a brilliantly written novel about life changes and a hard way to find yourself again. One day Chloe Holms, her husband Konrad and their young son are moving from London to the Isle of Man.
For Chloe, a woman who always had been very ambitious, a new life, life on the island, is like living in the back of beyond - a long way from what she had loved and what she knew well. She is a well-educated, strong and smart woman so she's feeling lost and frustrated. After living in loud and hard-pressed London, this quiet island is going to be an unimaginable challenge for her.
We are walking amongst moments of her life, we are getting to know her step by step. After some time she's not only a full-time mother but also women who had her life, job, plans and dreams. A not easy journey from the past to the present time. Her childhood, relationship dilemmas and her dysfunctional relationship with her mother, her working life, her loss, and all the different ways people react to unusual situations. Her fear, love, passion, hopes. Her emotions and struggles with being a career woman and not, criticism from the society and her own family.
It's also a story of a couple trying to find their path through life when sometimes not everything is going well. The story is focussed on Chloe's life so the reader can see all bright and dark sides of the life. We can see her hard way to be a good human with a normal life and everyday life in the place like this - the Isle of Man.
Will she find her happiness, peace and a new way of life?
Why you should read it
of women in early 21st Century in Western society. This book is a perfect proof that marriage isn't a fairy tale, something amazing, unique, a life amongst never-ending love, colorful flowers and sun, without problems, concerns, and pain. Chloe is proving that you must be strong enough to fight for your happiness and a better life. You have to fight to find what are you looking for.
The book is a remarkable journey of self-discovery and finding your way. And it's a proof that even though scary and dark times you can see blue sky. We make choices, we make mistakes, and we have to understand that we can make bad decisions, mistakes, choose the wrong words - we have to find our way and live, enjoying every day.
Things to look out for
Changes, personal fights, never-ending dilemmas. That losing something important always gives something new. Suffering from culture shock. The complexity of characters and needs. Relations between people - from family to the society. The little details that showed how different the way of life can be. Unique atmosphere.
The last word about the book
"The Cosmopolitan Islander" is the second excellent novel by M.P. Tonnesen. In my opinion, this book should be read by all women who try to have all the World, to have everything. This book is about and for all modern women who have to decide what they want from the life, make their priorities and decisions, choose the best way and fight with the dark sides of their decisions. Women who almost every day are faced with in determining to do everything, to get everything, to make everybody happy.
"The Cosmopolitan Islander" is like a secret diary - sometimes happy, sometimes sad, but after all is an honest voice of today's world.
The truth is "The Cosmopolitan Islander", as the previous book by Ms. Tonnesen "Desert Skies, Rebel Souls" (2017), is the book I can call one of the most original and well-crafted novels.
This book is terrific so enjoy every line, every word.
