C.S. Lewis : A Grief Observed

By Małgorzata Mikos - 24.10.16

First of all I have to say that this is not an easy book, so if you want some fun time or something for five minutes of reading - this is not a good book for you.

Sadness, longing, emptiness, tears, despair - who didn't feel these dark emotions because of bereavement, because of loss of somebody important for us?

"A Grief Observed" is like a long letter from C.S. Lewis to his wife, where he is writing about his feelings, fears, thoughts. There's no dates, but it's like a diary of a few weeks with a story of his new life without her; a story of hope, new life, being alone. For the writer these notes are a way for the acceptance with the loss, for reader these notes are a way to  try to understand the darkness inside the man in despair.

Why you should read it

In my opinion "A Grief Observed" isn't a book only for these who lost somebody, who feel longing, despair emptiness, sadness, who cry because of no hope for better days. I think that everybody should read it once to be ready for the worse, to find something deep in despair.

Things to look out for

Feelings. Love. Hope. Believe. Death. Eternity.

The last word about the book

"A Grief Observed" isn't a long book, it's sad and not so easy. I think that during reading of this book and then after finish it you will be thinking about it long long time. Maybe these words will stay with you for a  longer time, maybe they will stay with you for eternity.
